Meanwhile, Shankar will shortly begin work on the Hindi remake of his own Tamil hit Anniyan starring Ranveer Singh. The film should go to the floors this year. When announcing the project, Anniyan’s original producer Aascar Ravichandran warned Shankar of legal action over the remake. He said, “I am deeply shocked to know that you are likely to direct a Hindi film by taking on the story of the film, Anniyan. You know very well that I am the producer of the said film Anniyan. The entire rights to the story were bought by me from the writer Sujatha (aka the late Rangarajan), for whom I made full payment to him and the necessary records are also available. I am the complete and sole owner of the rights to the act. Therefore, any such adaptation or remake or copying of the main plot of the said film without my permission is completely illegal. “
In response to the allegations, Shankar said, “I am shocked to receive your 4/14/2021 email stating that you own the plot of the film Anniyan. In this context, I would like to state that the film was released in 2005 and everyone who is associated with the film knew that the script and plot belong exclusively to me and that the film is actually with the tag: story, script and direction was published by Shankar. I have not assigned a script or script to any person and I continue to reserve the right to use the script in any way I see fit. As an authorized author of the literary work, my rights cannot be encroached upon under any circumstances. “
In addition to the remake of Anniyan Hindi, Shankar also has Indian 2 with Kamal Haasan in his pipeline.
