With so many amazing locations to get married here in Peterborough, choosing the perfect location for your wedding can be difficult.

There are venues for all tastes, whether you’re looking for a small, intimate church or a large mansion in serene countryside.

While the pandemic has put weddings on hold for now, so many Cambridgeshire couples who got engaged in the past year will look to the future and make plans.

One place where you’ll feel like royalty on your wedding day is Holmewood Hall.

This charming mansion is located in Holme, a village near the A1.

The 18th century property is perfect for couples looking for a romantic, fairytale setting for their big day.

History of Holmewood Hall

The first building of Holmewood Hall was built in 1644. The current mansion has graced the property since 1873.

It was commissioned by William Wells, whose family inherited the Manor of Holme in 1769.

Holmewood Hall has had multiple uses since construction.

During the Second World War, 1942, the house and its grounds were used to train and equip resistance fighters in occupied Europe.

The US Office of Strategic Services trained agents to raid Norway to blow up the Norrland Railway.

In late 1944 the American Army left Holmewood Hall and was bought by a descendant of William Wells.

Unfortunately the house was in very bad shape and the new owner couldn’t make it the way it used to be.

In 1951, Holmewood Hall was bought by British Sugar.

The company used the site as its headquarters for seed and machine trials and later as a conference center.

During the British Sugar ownership, the property was sold – mostly to the Crown.

In 2019, Holmewood Hall was bought by Country House Weddings and transformed into the stunning venue it is today.
