The hashtag #FalexxForever already caused a stir on social media when the couple was due to get married in November 2021.
Just months before the wedding between Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo and model Fancy Acholonu, the couple canceled their engagement.
Fans were greeted with the news on Thursday, days after the couple was seen unfollowing each other on social media and also deleted their pictures together.
While Alex has not yet commented on the situation, Fancy confirmed in a post on Instagram that their relationship was over.
“Hey guys, I’m writing to officially announce to all of you that I’ve ended my relationship and engagement and canceled my wedding to Alexx Ekubo,” wrote the American-born model.
“I am aware that this can be a shock to many people. I made the best decision for myself, because it is important that everyone find their happiness and live in their truth. At this point in time, my family and I are asking all of you to respect our privacy. Thank you very much.”
The wedding, which was due to take place in November, had become one of the most anticipated this year with the hashtag #FalexxForever already causing the excitement typical of many celebrity weddings.
This comes at a time when some other celebrity couples seem to have hit a hurdle in their relationships as well.
Last weekend it became known that Anita Okoye, the wife of music star Paul from the now defunct P-Square, had filed for divorce.
In a petition submitted to the FCT High Court, Anita stated that the 7-year marriage had irrevocably broken for a lack of love and compatibility.
Paul and Anita have three children together.
In the meantime, about two weeks ago, the Ultimate Love couple Iyke and Theresa also canceled their engagement.
The couple met and fell in love in 2019 at the maiden edition of the Ultimate Love Show.
In May (2021) they took their affair one step further after the announcement of their engagement.
However, on August 11, Theresa wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post that she and Iyke have decided to split up and move on with their lives and careers.
She appealed to the fans to respect her decision.
