From Spain to the town hall - Katie and Karl had a completely different wedding day than they had imagined

“He asked me in the first year and as shy as I was, I said no. A few years later we started “hanging out” so he only asked a few more times and I ended up saying yes. “

THE HAPPY COUPLE

Katie Roche from County Dublin and Karl McConville from County Meath.

THE RECEPTION

Our ceremony took place in the impressive Dublin City Hall, followed by a reception at Kettle’s Country House Hotel. Both venues were a delight and made it so enjoyable.

Our wedding was originally supposed to take place on September 2nd, 2021 in La Cala de Mijas in Spain.

I saw Laura Whitmore and Iain Sterling get married in the town hall in lockdown, and I knew if our wedding in Spain didn’t take place, we would wish it were. It was exactly the relaxed atmosphere we wanted for a small wedding!

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Ian Hennessy Photography, he previously photographed my two sisters’ weddings so I had no doubt he would do ours if we had to change our wedding.

FUNNY MOMENTS

We have organized a bus for our guests that goes from the Kettles Hotel to the town hall. The weather was literally like in Spain and of course the air conditioning on all buses didn’t work. Add masks and the guests melt. We later found out that the driver just didn’t know how to turn it on. All was taken when they had a drink at Kettles!

FIRST SIGHT

We met in secondary school at Gormanston College. He asked me out on a date the first year and shy as I was, I said no. A few years later we started “hanging out” so he just asked a few more times and I ended up saying yes. We were best friends before anything else, so it was easy.

A PIECE OF ADVICE

Do what makes you happy and don’t feel weird about wanting to be different. Take the time to both enjoy it because it will pass so quickly.
