The wedding dress worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, is due to be exhibited at Kensington Palace. Diana’s famous dress will be the centerpiece of an exhibition that will take place in her former home the summer she would have celebrated her 60th birthday.

Designed by David and Elizabeth Emmanuel, the dress is part of a new event called “Royal Style in the Making,” which explores the relationship between royals and the designers whose creations shape their public image. Dresses from three generations of royal women will be on display, as will works of art and items from the archives of some of the most famous royal designers of the 20th century, some of which have never been seen before.

Diana’s wedding dress is on loan with permission from The Duke of Cambridge and The Duke of Sussex, who will both be at Kensington Palace this summer to unveil a statue of her mother on the sixtieth anniversary of her birth. This July also marks forty years since Lady Diana Spencer married the Prince of Wales at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

The exhibition, which opens on June 3, 2021, also offers a rare moment of royal fashion prep. A toile or full-size work sample of the coronation gown worn by Queen Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother, in 1937 is also shown, just part of the work that royal favorite designer Madame Handley-Seymour put into the gown.

“Royal Style in the Making” takes place between June 3, 2021 and January 2, 2022 at Kensington Palace. Admission to the exhibition is included in the entrance fee to Kensington Palace. The palace will reopen to the public on May 26, 2021 with social distancing measures.
