The Marshall Meadows Country House Hotel near Berwick is just a few hundred yards from the Scottish border.

The elegant 18th century Georgian estate, surrounded by 12 acres of picturesque gardens and woodland, has been purchased by RMM Holdings Limited.

Nigel Marcantonio, one of the company’s shareholders, said, “We are delighted to have completed the purchase of Marshall Meadows.

“When we inspected the property, we immediately recognized the potential of the property with its wonderful location, the idyllic terrain and the beautiful buildings.

“The hotel will undergo a comprehensive renovation and renovation program in the first half of 2021. We want to reopen it this summer.

“The newly remodeled hotel has 22 boutique rooms including a stunning master suite with stunning ocean views.

“We look forward to this new venture and making Marshall Meadows a premier hotel and wedding venue in the Northeast.”

The sellers are brothers Robert and David Hester, who owned and operated the hotel since 2011 and decided to sell it to retire from the sector.

Robert said, “I have owned, live and run Marshall Meadows for 10 years and have fond memories of the place, but it was time to sell.

“The company had been in the market with another national real estate agent with no interest for nearly two years before my brother David and I turned to Christie & Co as we learned of their regional success in the hotel market.

“Sure enough, after giving them 24 hours of instructions to proceed, we had viewings and after two weeks we were fortunate enough to have several options to choose from.

“We managed to agree an excellent offer before Christmas that far exceeded our hopes and expectations, especially in the current climate.

“Thanks to Christie & Co, I can now enjoy a well-deserved retirement. We wish the new owners all the best as they take the hotel to the next level.”

Mark Worley, Director at Christie & Co added: “When I first approached the hotel via the sprawling driveway, I was puzzled as to why this stunning country house hotel had received no interest, especially given the current demand for this type of business .

“With current overseas travel restrictions, rural hotels like this have been selling well, so it was no surprise that my early marketing initiatives and phone calls generated great interest from potential buyers.

“In fact, we could have sold the hotel many times over, and there were several very disappointed parties, but we decided to run with Nigel, Phillip and David at RMM Holdings Limited, who moved forward quickly and got the deal on time Christmas finished close. “
