[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Married at First Sight, Season 12, Episode 6, “Defending Your Wife.”]
Married at First Sight concludes the honeymoon phase of season 12, but not without some major drama.
In the latest installment in the series, Defending Your Wife, Chris is a problem, the couples have many problems to solve, Clare hears more than she expected and more. Ready? Let’s go! Beware of spoilers.
Clara and Ryan begin their fourth day of their honeymoon discussing love and past relationships. Claras says she always loved her partners more than loved, which leads her to question the match with Ryan after he reveals he never said I love you to a former partner.
Women drink, men play
While the women get together for a cocktail-mixing class – where Virginia shares that Erik’s strict rules that no friendships exist between women and men could be a deal breaker – the men enjoy playing. Erik apparently had a few pre-drinks with his die-hard wife, which Chris can’t miss. Not only does Erik learn that Haley and Jacob have completed their marriage, but he asks Chris to “man” himself in relation to the recent baby mum reveal. The advice is not well received.
Haley and Jacob share lunch, and she shows that she can still cope with her lack of private time. He wished she’d open up more, but that could be easier said than done. Meanwhile, Chris and Paige enjoy room service, but the reasonably decent vibe changes when she raises her dog. Chris is not interested in looking after the pet and wonders if they will be eating or chewing his stuff. Should we have expected less?
An L-word tick
Virginia and Erik discuss drinking and he tries to set his foot saying that he can’t keep up with her on a regular basis. Virginia steadfastly tells Erik that she will continue with her usual drinking routine. In Vincent and Briana’s room, he seems to have discovered what their family meant by Bri being “bossy”. According to Vincent, Briana is very upset when he discusses this with her later – away from the cameras.
The next day, Vincent and Briana go skydiving and discuss the revelations of the previous night. Briana says she is upset because she made Vincent uncomfortable and hopes he will be more open and open about how her interactions make him feel. So you are back on track. Meanwhile, Clara and Ryan, Erik and Virginia, and Chris and Paige are driving ATVs into the desert – and things get hot on the way.
When Clara and Virginia talk to Chris about the drama about his baby mom and Paige, he asks them to stay out of it. But they don’t hold back and he tells them that their concern is wrong and that he doesn’t need to explain himself to them. This then causes Chris to say that he is worried about Virginia and Erik drinking and that the powder keg is lit.
The other couples tell Paige that they support her, but Chris vows to make her return trip to the resort hell. It basically goes off in the van they share, arguing and screaming.
What better time to have dinner together? When everyone except Erik and Virginia is seated at the table, Chris speaks to those present and apologizes for his behavior. Things seem to be going on the right foot – until Erik and Virginia show up. Instead of sitting down and listening to things, Erik comes up with blazing guns to rub Chris off and says he should never talk to Virginia like he did earlier in the day.
Although the rest of the table tries to tell Erik that Chris apologized before he walked in, things escalate into a fistfight. Vincent accompanies Chris away from the table, and Erik and Virginia leave the scene, essentially ending the group dinner that has just begun.
One of the final bombs of the episode includes Ryan telling Clara to think more about the things that come out of her mouth, referring to the outing with Chris and Paige. Needless to say, she’s not taking it well. Haley is caught lying to Jacob when she tells him she’s going out for a ladies night and he discovers that she’s hanging out with the other couples. And finally, Chris tells Paige that he still loves his ex and is seriously considering getting back together with her. Just when it looks like the last shoe has fallen, Paige comes to Chris and demands that he change, otherwise she has to end the marriage. When will she see he won’t?
